Introduction

Rutherford, a fast-growing leader in healthcare education, focused on advancing knowledge and collaboration in the medical community. To support their expansion, they required a structured product development strategy, a cohesive design language, and refined UX expertise to guide their teams.

We helped define a clear roadmap for their product vision, focusing on delivering value for both the customer and the business. In response to the challenges of COVID-19, we pivoted by developing an online events platform that brought the medical community together, ensuring continued engagement and learning.

Challenges

The primary challenge was to focus the team on delivering a clear, prioritised roadmap that aligned with Rutherford’s vision while navigating the complexities of a distributed team. We also had to ensure the solution was scalable and adaptable to changing needs, particularly during the pandemic when in-person events were no longer feasible.

Benchmarking and enhancing user experience

To align with user expectations and leverage established UX patterns, we audited platforms both within and beyond the healthcare sector. This provided clear benchmarks for improving the user experience from the start.

Strategic feature prioritisation and agile delivery

We implemented a goals framework, agile methodology, and sprint ceremonies to guide feature development. By using research and data analytics, we prioritised high-impact, low-effort features. An iterative approach allowed us to quickly deliver updates, test their value, and refine the platform based on real user behaviour.

Modular, responsive UI library

In order to unify the user experience we set up a basic UI library for development. The modular approach enabled the design and development teams to update components quickly and save time.

Fast sign up to improve conversion

In order to increase the number of sign ups we improved the sign up flow and introduced a feature to enable users to sign up quickly from any point in the experience. We enticed the user to personalise their experience by choosing topics they were interested in.

Video rails make it easier for the user to scan and for the business to promote content

Versatile video rails

The business needed a way to curate their videos in order to serve users with the most relevant content. Video rails enabled the user to scan content quickly and for the business to curate and showcase the depth and breadth of content they had.

Events platform to open a new revenue stream

We designed a platform for brands and publishers to host digital events on the platform. Each event catered for the before, during and after stages of an event. They were able to create awareness and suspense before the event, cater for live interaction during an event and curate the content after the event.

Summary

Our work with Berry’s Adventures transformed the way young children interact with educational content through engaging, play-based learning. By blending fun and education, we created a trusted platform that resonated with both kids and parents. The app’s strong early engagement and successful proof of concept have paved the way for further development and expansion.
